The Noise-Arch Archive

This collection is a compilation of underground/independently-released cassette tapes from the days when the audio cassette was the standard method of music sharing... generally the mid-eighties through early-nineties. The material represented includes tape experimentation, industrial, avant-garde, indy, rock, diy, subvertainment and auto-hypnotic materials. Much of this material defies category, and has therefore not been given one.

We Need To Rewild The Internet

The internet has become an extractive and fragile monoculture. But we can revitalize it using lessons learned by ecologists.

Sharing the best of my photos as wallpapers

However, at the same time, I think that if I just take all these pictures and hoard them for myself, is it really any better than not taking pictures at all?

nethogs

NetHogs is a small 'net top' tool. Instead of breaking the traffic down per protocol or per subnet, like most tools do, it groups bandwidth by process.

GNU Stow

GNU Stow is a symlink farm manager which takes distinct packages of software and/or data located in separate directories on the filesystem, and makes them appear to be installed in the same place. For example, /usr/local/bin could contain symlinks to files within /usr/local/stow/emacs/bin, /usr/local/stow/perl/bin etc., and likewise recursively for any other subdirectories such as .../share, .../man, and so on.

The NES game console has an unused expansion port, this NES Hub project could put it to use

Nintendo’s first home game console to launch in North America was an 8-bit system with support for up to two removable controllers and a 15-pin expansion port on the bottom. But Nintendo never actually released any accessories for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) that use the expansion port.

Factorio and phantasies of mechanization

The Internet it utterly useless

We celebrate the information age as a massive step forward for humanity. It made possible the exchange of information almost instantly across the world. Borders so it would seem are completely irrelevant and everyone can share and consume information and "content" freely.

Remote work is no longer some exotic concept and online shopping has turned from a fringe experience to the default way of doing things. Everyone can contribute, exchange ideas, publish content, shop, work, bank, ... you name it. Our lives are digital and the internet is at the very heart of it.

So how on earth would anyone consider the internet useless in any way?

Digital preservation

In library and archival science, digital preservation is a formal process to ensure that digital information of continuing value remains accessible and usable in the long term. It involves planning, resource allocation, and application of preservation methods and technologies, and combines policies, strategies and actions to ensure access to reformatted and "born-digital" content, regardless of the challenges of media failure and technological change. The goal of digital preservation is the accurate rendering of authenticated content over time.

Tech Independence

Tech independence is not depending on any particular company or software.
